Rock legend Carl Dixon to speak at Brain Injury Awareness Day Event

Vista Centre Brain Injury Services announces their 12th Annual Brain Injury Awareness Day will take place on June 14, 2023. This one-day event features expert speakers offering research and valuable insights to brain injury survivors, family members, service providers and clinicians.

Headlining the event this year is Canadian rock legend Carl Dixon who will deliver the keynote speech. In 2008, Carl’s career as a lead singer touring with bands such as Iron Maiden and The Guess Who was forever impacted by a car accident and subsequent traumatic brain injury. Despite his injuries, he’s rebuilt a music career, become a published author and now an inspirational speaker.

The plenary session explores ‘The Dignity of Risk and Brain Injury’ with expert speaker Debjani Mukherjee, PhD, HEC-C, associate professor of medical ethics in clinical medicine and clinical rehabilitation medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. Arman Ali, MPH, Research Associate: Knowledge Translation and Implementation Neurotrauma Care Pathways (KITE) will present his expertise on the topic: ‘How Far are We from Achieving A+ CareQuality? Evaluating Post-TBI Care Through the Provincial Report Card’. Gain practical insights from the uOttawa Community Service Learning Student Projects who will present on topics such as ‘Affordable Healthy Meals for Individuals with an ABI’ and ‘Physical Activity After an ABI’. Individuals will share their lived experiences, bringing the conference full circle and inspiring the community to continue advocating for those with brain injuries.

This year, the event will be offered in a hybrid format and registration is now open for those who wish to attend either in-person or online. Through the generous support of our sponsors, this hybrid conference is offered free of cost, however, registration is required.
